Site & Concept - Creation of an Island

Laminated / Contour model Island (Step 3)

As you can see the third part on the Island concept is to create a contour model using the previous model shape. How did I did this ?! Simple, I used my previous model (step1) and brought a plastic container and I put the model inside. I took a kettle with fresh water and by each "layer" I filled until the model be submerge. Using the blade I contoured the way as the water filled on the island very gently to avoid to break or collapsed the model, until I see all the contours in it. I take my model really gentle and slowly outside the container to the table, because was fragile due to several minutes contact with the water.
After that, I take photos in elevation view, to see all contours that I made, print out in A4 format and using the tracing paper I trace it cautiously by black pen. I cut the tracing paper using my blade, each contour and place on the top of my greyboard to contour the outline by pencil. After you have all contour greyboard pieces, you start to glue your laminated model, which finish like this:

Island Topographic Sections (Step 2)

As you can see, after I finish to do my model I do had to cut with a blade into sections to visualize clearly the topographic and able to draw in A1 paper format the sections of that island, drawing just the outline with black pen. We have to cut 5 sections, so there is the ones:

Site & Concept - Creation of an Island

Island Structure (Step 1)

In the first task of this module is to create a island using plasticine to give the shape of the island that I want to create. It could be a singular island or an archipelago....so I prefer a mountainous archipelago, with a volcanic areas with it. The topography it may vary in different areas to the crater - "beach" area. It wasn't easy at first to imagine an island that I wanted to form until I thought the Madeira Island shape. So I started to "construct" the island, where the conclusion was like this.... :

As you can see the photo on the top is my island model
made by white plasticine.
